How Often Should My Church Post on Social Media?
Social media is a powerful tool that can be used to reach a wide audience with your church's message. But with so many platforms and so much content out there, it can be tough to know how often you should post. Not only that, but we’re often managing social media as one of several roles that are just as important for our ministry.
The answer, of course, depends on a number of factors, including your church's goals, who you’re trying to reach, and the resources you have available. Despite all the variables that can come into play, there are a few general guidelines you can follow to help you determine how often your church should post on social media.
Start with a schedule
The first step is to create a schedule for your social media posts. This will help you stay on track and make sure you're posting regularly.
There's no one-size-fits-all answer to the question of how often you should post. But as a general rule, you should aim to post at least once a day on each platform you're active on. If you can post more often, that's great. But don't feel like you have to post every hour on the hour. Just find a frequency that works for you and stick to it.
With the move to pushing for short form videos such as Reels on Instagram and Facebook, Shorts on YouTube, and TikTok, most social networks want you to be publishing a new video every day. I’ve managed accounts for churches where we posted one reel week, a short clip of a sermon with subtitles, and they experienced follower growth and increasing views every week. So it’s not a hard and fast rule that you can only grow by posting every day.
Experiment with different posting schedules
Once you've started posting on a regular schedule, experiment with different frequencies to see what works best for you. You may find that your audience responds better to more frequent posts, or you may find that they prefer less frequent updates.
The key is to find a balance that works for you and your audience. The algorithms constantly change, and more than likely your followers won’t see every post you publish. The only downside to posting too much on the Meta channels is that they can stop pushing your new posts to as many if they aren’t getting good engagement consistently. This is less of a concern on tiktok.
Post high-quality content
The frequency of your posts is important, but the quality of your posts is even more important. When you post on social media, you're competing for attention with a lot of other content. So make sure your posts are interesting, engaging, and relevant to your audience.
Don't just post for the sake of posting. Take the time to create high-quality content that will capture your followers' attention and keep them coming back for more.
Use social media analytics
Most social media platforms offer analytics tools that can help you track your progress and see how your posts are performing. Use these tools to see what's working and what's not.
If you find that certain types of posts are getting more engagement than others, focus on creating more of those types of posts. And if you find that certain times of day or days of the week are getting more engagement, schedule your posts accordingly.
Be patient
Building a following on social media takes time and effort. Don't expect to see results overnight. Just keep posting high-quality content, engaging with your followers, and promoting your church on social media. Over time, you'll start to see your efforts pay off.
